Grape - Blaufränkisch, St Laurent

Where - Burgenland, Austria

What - Andreas Gsellmann is a thoughtful Austrian winemaker who weighs the importance of protecting nature above anything else. All of his wines are produced with biodynamic methods and his mentality - support instead of exploitation - seems effective in producing drinkable wines that haven't hurt a soul in the process. The level of finesse is unrivaled, with pure expressions of these native varieties.

The soils of Burgenland's terroir are mainly sand with a high iron content, mixed with loam and limestone areas on top of the Danube River gravel that covers this whole region. This wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in a combination of 500- litre oak barrels and stainless steel tank. It is then matured for 15-months in oak that comes through slightly in the finished product.

In terms of tasting, the Zu Tisch Rot gives fizzy cherry notes, green herbs, red fruits and blackberry. The palate is very soft and smooth, making it a great summer sipper.

Smooth, easy-going, flavourful. Vegan. Low intervention. Organic. Biodynamic. ABV 12.5%.
