Grape - Nerello Mascalese
Where - Sambuca, Sicily
What - Due Terre are all about celebrating the indigenous grapes of Sicily. It was a tough choice to pick which wine to start with, as they offer everything from Cattaratto to Nero d'Avola, but the Nerello Mascalese really stood out as a food-friendly, rustic Italian banger.
They've kept the maceration short and cold for this guy (four days) to reduce the tannins of this traditional tannic variety. The juice ferments on native yeasts for a period of twelve days and is aged for fifteen months. All of their processes focus around being sustainable and low intervention, with organic farming methods being used throughout all vineyards.
Their Nerello Mascalese is a deliciously earthy and robust red wine that would pair excellently with any hearty Mediterranean dish. You will be treated to moreish savoury flavours such as smoke, mushroom and forest floor, which is balanced by cherry, pomegranate and hibiscus.
Earthy, rustic, red fruit. Vegan. Low intervention. Organic certified. ABV 13%.
