Grape - Saperavi
Where - Kakheti, Georgia
What - Ori Marani are a winery that have recently found their way onto our natural wine radar and have impressed with every single bottle we've tried so far. They're one of the most exciting wineries to have been founded in recent years (2016, to be exact) and have quickly established themselves as champions of low intervention methods in Georgia.
The husband and wife team, Bastien Warskotte and Nino Gvantseladze, travelled across winemaking counties to gain experience before founding Ori Marani. Due to their natural techniques, the wines that are produced sing with ripe fruit and excellently showcase the diverse soils of Kashmi village in Kakheti.
For the 'Nita' red wine, Bastien and Nino harvested later than usual (early October) to ensure full maturation of the high-quality, organic Saperavi grapes. Fermentation and maceration was around 20 days on indigenous yeasts, before racking in old French oak and moving to Qvevri for malolactic fermentation.
The result is a light, ruby red wine. The aromas offer wild forest fruit, brambles and a touch of licorice. On the palate, it is balanced with ideal amounts of smooth tannins and a crisp mouthfeel. Cherries, strawberries and violet notes can be found, with an overall light, yet complex, finish. It's also a super rare wine, with only 600 bottles kicking around, so get on it!
Light, complex, unique. Vegan. Organic practicing. Low intervention. Minimal sulphite. 12.5% ABV.
