What - Cabin/Wholesale Manager Angus made the most unsettling noise known to humankind when he first opened this case of Barolo; something akin to an exorcism. It was, he assured me, a noise of joy because this wine is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. 

 

Founded in 1940, this winery still stays under the radar which only adds to the secrecy and mystery appeal. Their style of winemaking stays true to that of tradition, and this Nebbiolo underwent a 35-day maceration with a submerged cap before being left to mature in cask. Usually, they age for two years, but they left this wine for thirty months for an extra special year. 

 

The 2015 Sobrero Barolo has ripe, warm aromas of stewed plums, leather and spice, with juicy fruit, cocoa and brambles on the palate alongside firm tannins. 

 

Impressive, complex, lively. Organic practicing. Vegan. ABV 14%.
