Grape - Pinot Noir
Where - Moravia, Czech Republic
What - The Stapleton & Springer winery was founded back in 2004 with the one main aim of producing high-quality, epic red wine to rival the best of Czech naturals. They're a passionate group with a real dedication to caring for their environment, enjoying the process of watching the ecosystems flourish with indigenous flora and fauna.
For the Ben's Reserve, top-end parcels of organic Pinot Noir are sourced from neighbouring south-east facing, clayey, volcanic sites. The winery operates in keeping with the techniques of Burgundy. Once harvested, the grapes are cold-pressed and vinified using wild yeasts before ageing in a mixture of new and second oak barrels. After having time to settle, the wine is bottled with minimal sulphite and further aged in the bottle before release.
This is a truly grown-up Pinot with great ageing potential (if you have the patience). In the glass, this wine offers notes of strawberry, plums, violets, coffee and white chocolate. It really delivers everything you could want from a light Pinot Noir, but with the extra Czech complexity that you really can't find anywhere else.
Rich, rounded, decadent. Vegan. Organic. Low intervention. 13.5 ABV.
