Grape - Pinot Noir
Where - Rhinehessen, Germany
What - Weingut Thorle is an organic winery run by brothers Christoph and Johannes. They're renowned for producing some of the best natural wine in the country and their incredible Pinot Noir proves this without hesitation. They're on their way to biodynamic production which is a pretty big damn deal in Rhinehessen where tradition tends to outweigh anything akin to forward-thinking.
For the Spätburgunder, high-quality Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from a couple of sites in Germany’s Rhineland. After hand harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and cold-pressed. The juice is then vinified using wild yeasts in stainless steel vessels. After fermentation, the wines are transferred into large 4th fill oak vessels for 6 months of ageing. The wine is then further aged in bottle before release to the epectant world.
This is an exceptionally light style of pinot. There's a touch of oak in the aromas along with wild forest fruit and cherry. On the palate, you'll detect notes of strawberries, redcurrant, cranberry, graphite and wood spice.
Light, crunchy, complex. Vegan. Organic. Low intervention. 12.5% ABV.
