Grape - Grenache
Where - Navarra, Spain
What - Aseginolaza & Leunda (Jon & Pedro) are old school friends with a crazed obsession for old vine Grenache.
Their vineyards have been rehabilitated from unirrigated bush vines without the use of any pesticides or damaging processes. Their focus is completely on the natural with an unrivaled appreciation for their environment in Navarra, Spain.
To make the Kauten, 100% Grenache grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed (except for 20%) before fermentation with indigenous yeasts. They're hand-pressed and transferred into stainless steel vessels for malolactic fermentation. The juice is aged for 4-months in old French oak before being bottled unfiltered, without additives and minimal sulphite.
This is a hugely expressive natural red wine and you can easily tell how much passion for Grenache has gone into its production. Beyond tasty, the tannins hit at a medium level with good acidity. It's rich with black and red berries, whilst also boasting herbaceous, spicy notes that are just so, so tasty.
Juicy, spicy, blackcurrants. Vegan. Low intervention. Organic practicing. ABV 14.5%.
